چکیده

An improved version of a recently developed stochastic cluster dynamics (SCD) method [Marian, J. and Bulatov, V. V., J. Nucl. Mater. 415 (2014) 84-95] is introduced as an alternative to rate theory (RT) methods for solving coupled ordinary differential equation (ODE) systems for irradiation damage simulations. SCD circumvents by design the curse of dimensionality of the variable space that renders traditional ODE-based RT approaches inefficient when handling complex defect population comprised of multiple (more than two) defect species. Several improvements introduced here enable efficient and accurate simulations of irradiated materials up to realistic (high) damage doses characteristic of next-generation nuclear systems. The first improvement is a procedure for efficiently updating the defect reaction-network and event selection in the context of a dynamically expanding reaction-network. Next is a novel implementation of the τ-leaping method that speeds up SCD simulations by advancing the state of the reaction network in large time increments when appropriate. Lastly, a volume rescaling procedure is introduced to control the computational complexity of the expanding reaction-network through occasional reductions of the defect population while maintaining accurate statistics. The enhanced SCD method is then applied to model defect cluster accumulation in iron thin films subjected to triple ion-beam (Fe, He and H) irradiations, for which standard RT or spatially-resolved kinetic Monte Carlo simulations are prohibitively expensive. Dynamics of Macro–Nano Mechanical Systems; Fixed Interfacial Multiscale Method

The continuum based approaches don’t provide the correct physics in atomic scales. On the other hand, the molecular based approaches are limited by the length and simulated process time. As an attractive alternative, this paper proposes the Fixed Interfacial Multiscale Method (FIMM) for computationally and mathematically efficient modeling of solid structures. The approach is applicable to mult...

Comparative Study of Random Matrices Capability in Uncertainty Detection of Pier’s Dynamics

Because of random nature of many dependent variables in coastal engineering, treatment of effective parameters is generally associated with uncertainty. Numerical models are often used for dynamic analysis of complex structures, including mechanical systems. Furthermore, deterministic models are not sufficient for exact anticipation of structure’s dynamic response, but probabilistic models...

Modeling Dynamic Force using Stochastic Differential Equations

This research project was motivated by the need to develop stochastic process models to understand the dynamics of the accumulation of damage to a road surface. The factors which cause this degradation are the forces exerted by the vehicles, weather conditions and the materials used to construct the road. The extent of degradation at a given point in time also varies spatially. Eventually, give...

Introduction to the Slide Modeling Method for the Efficient Solution of Heat Conduction Calculations

Determination of the maximum temperature and its location is the matter of the greatest importance in many technological and scientific engineering applications. In terms of numerical calculations of the heat conduction equation by using uniform mesh increments in space, large computational cost is sometimes countered. However, adaptive grid refinement method could be computationally efficient ...

A crack localization method for beams via an efficient static data based indicator

In this paper, a crack localization method for Euler-Bernoulli beams via an efficient static data based indicator is proposed. The crack in beams is simulated here using a triangular variation in the stiffness. Static responses of a beam are obtained by the finite element modeling. In order to reduce the computational cost of damage detection method, the beam deflection is fitted through a poly...
